Examining the bill on amending the Law on the President’s activity was postponed. The initiative bill of 3 Communist MPs claiming some facilities and special protection for the president of Moldova, including after the expiration of his mandate, should have been discussed on Thursday, 18 May, at the Legislative’s sitting. At the beginning of the meeting, the chairman of the Juridical, Appointment and Immunity issues Committee, Vladimir Tsurcan required the postponement of discussing the bill on the ground that it is still not prepared yet. The amending draft provides keeping the diplomatic and juridical immunity of the president when his mandate expires, as well as free security services along 8 years for persons who held presidency, compared to 4 years previously. The bill also stipulates the ensuring of any other types of facilities for the head of the state. The opposition deputies stated previously that this draft was specially schemed for allowing President Vladimir Voronin to eluding lawsuits after his seat comes to completion. Since 1991, Moldova was headed by 3 presidents.
