Chişinău.03.04.06.Info-Prim Neo/oxa/ President Vladimir Voronin requested support from Latvia in negotiating autonomous preferential trade regime between Moldova and Latvia. Taking the opportunity of the official visit of Latvian President, Vaira Vike-Freiberga in Moldova, Voronin highlighted the importance of support of European community of Moldova’s integration efforts, noting that the visit of Latvian president is a supporting gesture of the actions towards Transnistrian regulation and European integration. Reaffirming the confidence of Latvian authorities to provide assisting in promoting reforms in different fields in Moldova, Vaira Vike-Freiberga was very interested in setting cooperation in justice area, pointing out that authorities of Riga could share their experience on strengthening judges’ independence, increasing the role of state prosecution. At the same time, Vaira Vike-Freiberga announced Latvia’s interest in learning Moldova’s experience in the area of informational technologies, referred to cooperation opportunities in defense matters and expressed his opinion on ensuring energy security of both countries. Latvian president appreciated the involvement of the European Union in Transnistrian regulation process, underscoring the importance of EU Monitoring Mission at Moldovan-Ukrainian border and implementation of the new customs regime in order to secure the state frontier and advancing the peaceful solving of the conflict. Regarding the blocking of Moldovan wine export on the market of Russian Federation, Vaira Vike-Freiberga considered as incorrect the situation when the requirements in the field of quality are used as political ways. President of Latvia noted that his country would support Moldova’s letters regarding facilitating visa regime with EU countries. An agreement between the governments of Moldova and Latvia on cooperation development and Cooperation Agreement between Ministries of defense of both countries was signed in the presence of both presidents.
