Head of state Nicolae Timofti called upon two of the leaders of the former ruling alliance - Vlad Filat and Marian Lupu – to take their words back and to sit at the negotiating table so as to identify solutions to the political crisis. Vlad Filat is requested to renounce the decision regarding the withdrawal of the PLDM from the Alliance for European Integration, which was made public two weeks ago, while Marian Lupu is asked not to insist on the resignation of the Premier and on his own resignation, Info-Prim Neo reports. In a news conference on February 27, Nicolae Timofti said that he discussed with the AEI leaders and considers that the political crisis can be overcome. The appointment of the new minister of youth and sport is a relevant example of governance in coalition. Nicolae Timofti is sure that the leaders of the government coalition realize the responsibility they have towards the country. He underlined that the early elections do not represent a solution and are wanted only by those who do not wish Moldova welfare. “During the last few days, I had intense discussions with the leaders of the Alliance for European Integration and with different foreign emissaries, my advisers and representatives of civil society in an attempt to find a way out of the present political crisis. I note that this is not impossible. I think that in politics reason must prevail over emotions, while the country’s interests must prevail over the party interests. The political, diplomatic and economic analyses provided to me show that our national interest is to continue the European integration process,” the head of state told the press. On February 13, Prime Minister Vlad Filat, who heads the PLDM, said that his party decided to withdraw from the agreement on the formation of the AEI that was signed in 2010, but is ready to negotiate a new agreement. After a series of mutual accusations between the PLDM and PDM, the Democratic leader Marian Lupu said that the only solution for overcoming the political crisis is for Vlad Filat to resign. Afterward, he will resign from the post of Head of Parliament. Otherwise, the PDM will put forward a censure motion for dismissing the Government.
