President Maia Sandu visited the Diocesan Centre in Cahul where she was welcomed by His Grace Veniamin, Bishop of Southern Bessarabia, IPN reports.
During the meeting, His Grace Veniamin presented aspects of the activity of the Diocese, discussing the role of the Church as a factor of stability and social cohesion, the Press Office of the Diocese of Southern Bessarabia said.
At the end of the meeting, His Grace Veniamin offered Maia Sandu, as a token of appreciation, on behalf of the community of parishioners of the diocese, an icon with the image of the Mother of God, protector of all Christians.
The head of state was accompanied by Parliament Speaker Igor Grosu.
The Diocese of Southern Bessarabia is the canonical and historical successor of the Diocese of Alba-Ismail Fortress and also of the Romanian dioceses that worked in this territory throughout history.
