President Maia Sandu was handed over the Madeleine K. Albright Democracy Award 2022 in Washington. The official thanked for the prize, noting that she accepts this award in the name of all the citizens of the Republic of Moldova who struggle for democracy and freedom, IPN reports.
At its annual gala on December 6, 2022, the National Democratic Institute also bestowed its inaugural Madeleine K. Albright Democracy Awards on President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, President Zuzana Čaputová of Slovakia, and Prime Minister Ingrida Simonyte of Lithuania, for their tireless efforts to promote and protect democracy in their countries, their region and beyond.
While in Washington, Maia Sandu had a meeting with National Security Advisor to President Joe Bide Jake Sullivan. The discussion centered on the Moldova-U.S. partnership and aspects of security in our region.
According to the Moldovan presidential press service, the officials conferred on the complex challenges caused by Russia’s war against Ukraine and on the fight against corruption in the Republic of Moldova. In this connection, Maia Sandu underlined the importance of the cooperation with the U.S. in this field.
