The Republic of Moldova is today on the road to accession to the European Union. It is an independent and sovereign country and is the only one that must and can decide its fate. “I’m confident that one day, in the not too distant future, we will be together in the big European family,” the President of Romania’s Senate Nicolae-Ionel Ciucă, who is on a visit to Chisinau, wrote on Facebook.

The Romanian official also conveyed a strong message of solidarity and support, in a particularly complicated security context for “our brothers and sisters beyond the Prut River”.

According to Nicolae-Ionel Ciucă, the citizens of the Republic of Moldova already know that Romania is their most reliable partner. “We, the Liberals, have supported and will continue our unconditional support for them,” said the Romanian official.

He noted that his thoughts go to the hundreds of thousands of Moldovan citizens who live in Romania and are worried about their families from across the Prut River. “I want you to know that Romania values just as much the places where you were born,” he added.

The President of the Romanian Senate Nicolae-Ionel Ciucă is paying a visit to Moldova on March 1-2. He is expected to have meetings with President Maia Sandu and Parliament Speaker Igor Grosu.
