According to the Romanian press, the president of Romania, Traian Basescu, is disappointed by the textbook of integrated history of Moldova. During the international videoconference " Economic Development and Security in the Black Sea Region”, Basescu declared that he is “disappointed by the so-called textbook of integrated history of Moldova for lyceums on the other bank of Prut". He didn’t want to make any official comments on this topic, though, “in order not to affect the political trust between Bucharest and Chisinau”. The course of integrated history has been introduced by the Moldovan authorities as an obligatory school subject, starting September 1, 2006 replacing, in the curricula, the course of Romanian history. The decision resulted in numerous disputes and protests in Chisinau. Several professors and students protested against this course, which is in their opinion “a historical false” and “an instrument for ideological indoctrination of the education by the government party”. Several opposition parties, as well as the Association of Historians from Moldova reproved the anti-constitutional and antinational policy promoted by the communist government and intends to contest in court the Order of the Ministry of Education and Youth concerning the abusive introduction in educational system of the course of integrated history. They assert that, by replacing the course of “Romanian history” with that of “Integrated history”, communist government continues the soviet, anti-scientific policy of “moldovenism”, a fact which contravenes the art.5 of the Constitution providing that “No ideology may be pronounced as an official ideology of the State.”. At the moment, a special commission of the Academy of Science from Moldova analyzes the veracity of the articles included in the textbook of integrated history.
