Romania’s President Klaus Iohannis has declassified secret documents of the meeting of the Supreme Council of National Defense (CSAT) after the first round of the presidential election. They show a possible involvement of Russia in the electoral process in the country, but also the lack of transparency of candidate Calin Georgescu both regarding the budget and the way he conducted his election campaign, IPN reports.

The decision comes four days before the runoff presidential election, but also after a number of civil society organizations sent an open letter asking for the declassification. This is the first time that CSAT documents are declassified.

These are documents that clarify the campaign carried out by Călin Georgescu, which show that 25,000 TikTok accounts were allegedly used to increase the popularity of candidate Călin Georgescu, possibly by using "bot farms" in the election campaign.

Romania's intelligence services hint that large sums of money had been spent on this operation and that the scale and geographical expansion, in various aspects in over 30 states, point to "a state operator".

"The evaluation of the scenario used for the creation of the content elements indicates similar situations carried out as part of actions to influence the voting intention in the Republic of Moldova," reads the document of the Romanian Ministry of the Interior.
