President Maia Sandu to address nation on Independence Day

Inaugurating Independence Day festivities in the Great National Assembly Square, President Maia Sandu will deliver a speech addressed to the nation.

The inauguration ceremony will be attended by Prime Minister Dorin Recean, representatives of the President’s Office, Parliament and Government, members of the diplomatic corps, signatories of the Declaration of Independence.

On Sunday morning, at 8:30 AM, the top officials of Moldova will lay flowers to the Sorrowful Mother monument at the Eternity Memorial Complex, followed by a similar ceremony at the monument of Stephen the Great.

The inaugurating ceremony of Independence Day festivities will start in the Great National Assembly Square at 10:00 AM, followed by a brass band concert.

Meanwhile, from noon to 4:00 PM, PM Recean and other government officials will meet with people on the Government Building’s backyard lawn. Here, people will also be able to meet Moldovan sports champions, watch a wrestling show or participate in a children’s painting workshop.

A folk music and dance show will start in the Great National Assembly Square at 4:00 PM, with the famous JOC band as the headliners.

This will be followed by a concert featuring famous musicians from the Moldovan diaspora, starting at 7:30 PM. The lineup includes the opera singer Valentina Nafornița (Austria), the violinist Alexandra Conunova (Switzerland), the baritone Andrei Jilihovschi (France) and many others.

At 9:30 PM., the Lăutarii National Folk Music Orchestra will take the stage in the Great National Assembly Square. The celebration will culminate with a big round-dance involving the public.
