Eleven athletes will represent Moldova at the Youth Olympic Games in China. President Nicolae Timofti handed over the flag to Tatiana Doncila, who will carry it at the opening ceremony in Nanjing, IPN reports.

The head of state wished the Olympic squad success, saying he is confident that they will represent the country in the best way. He added that these sports events are an occasion for the young people to know other countries and peoples, to present what’s best in their country and to learn good things from others.

Attending the event, president of the National Olympic Committee Nicolae Juravschi said that Moldova will take part in the Youth Olympic Games for the second time. After the first participation, the Moldovan athletes brought home a silver medal and a bronze one.

Nicolae Juravschi stated that Moldova’s team this year is stronger as it includes European and world champions. The 11 athletes will take part in six events.

The Youth Olympic Games will take place in China’s Nanjing on August 16-28.
