The President of Moldova Igor Dodon took part in the May 9 military parade in the Red Square of Moscow at the invitation of his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin. According to the presidential press service, it was for the first time in the last 15 years that a President of Moldova took part in the events staged in the capital of Russia on the occasion of Victory Day, IPN reports.
After the official ceremony, Vladimir Putin and Igor Dodon laid wreaths at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier and flowers at the memorial plaques with names of heroes in the Aleksandrovski Park.
The two Presidents observed a minute’s silence in memory of unknown soldiers and the national anthems of Moldova and Russia were played afterward.
“I’m proud that the anthem of the Republic of Moldova was played here, near the Kremlin Wall. I’m proud that our country took part, in the most active way, in the achievement of our common Victory, which no one will be able to take away from our people. Eternal memory to heroes!” said Igor Dodon.
He thanked Vladimir Putin for the invitation and for the possibility of attending the events.
The international press reported that the President of the Republic of Moldova was the only high-ranking official who accepted the Russian President’s invitation to take part in the May 9 parade this year.
