President Igor Dodon expressed his indignation at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and European Integration’s decision to summon Moldova’s Ambassador in Moscow Andrei Neguta to Chisinau for consultations for an indefinite period of time. He said “this is a step backward in the diplomatic relations with Moldova’s main strategic partner – the Russian Federation”, IPN reports.

“I consider this a new provocation staged by pro-European government, aimed at undermining the strategic partnership between our states. The Euro-unionists from the Moldovan administration intentionally take steps to worsen the relations with Russia so as to secure the West’s loyalty,” President Dodon wrote on his Facebook page.

Igor Dodon also said that this unfriendly action is taken before his scheduled visit to Moscow, which he is to pay at the invitation of the President of Russia Vladimir Putin. If the goal of this action is to thwart his visit to Russia, it will have no effect as he does not intent to change his plans.

“The people of the Republic of Moldova mandated me to build relations of friendship with the Russian Federation. During a year, we managed to do many things in this regard together and will continue to act the same way. The Moldovan-Russian relations will develop despite the provocations staged by the Euro-unionist regime in Chisinau,” wrote Igor Dodon.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and European Integration requested Moldova’s Ambassador to Russia Andrei Neguta to come to Chisinau for consultations for an indefinite period of time. The Ministry said the decision was taken in connection with the cases of harassment and intimidation to which officials and politicians of the Republic of Moldova are subject by the authorities of the Russian Federation, the recent increase in their number and the lack of official reactions to the repeated requests made by the Moldovan authorities over these cases.
