President Bush nominates new Ambassador to Moldova

American President George W. Bush announced his intention to nominate Asif J. Chaudhry, of Washington, to be Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the United States of America to the Republic of Moldova, the U.S. Embassy said in a press release, quoted by Info-Prim Neo. Asif J. Chaudhry, a career member of the U.S. Senior Foreign Service, class of Minister-Counselor, currently serves as Deputy Administrator of the Office of Global Analysis at the U.S. Department of Agriculture. Prior to this, he served as Agricultural Minister Counselor at the United States Embassy in Cairo. Earlier in his career, he served as Assistant to the General Sales Manager of the Foreign Agriculture Service in the Office of the Administrator. Born and raised in a farming family in a small village in Pakistan, Asif J. Chaudhry received his bachelor’s degree from the University of Punjab, his master’s degree from the American University of Beirut and his PhD from Washington State University. Mr. Chaudhry’s language skills include Russian. He is an avid squash player. He is married to Charla Chaudhry and they have two sons and a daughter. Mr. Chaudhry’s appointment has to be confirmed by the United States Senate.
