“Prime Minister Vlad Filat does not want to cooperate with the Moldovan Metropolitan Church, turning thus his back to the people who elected him,” His Holiness Marchel, archpriest of the Bishopric of Balti and Falesti, said in a news conference, quoted by Info-Prim Neo.
His Holiness Marchel said the Premier did not create the joint commission that would examine the bill on the prevention and combating of discrimination, known as the Antidiscrimination Law, though he promised this. “After almost 10 months of expectation and hope, the Prime Minister gave an answer through the Ministry of Justice. I want to read this answer. “As the bill on the prevention and combating of discrimination went through all the legal stages, I think it is inopportune to create a working group to discuss its provisions”. If he does not see such a necessity, this does not mean that it does not exist,” said the archpriest.
According to him, this answer confirms once again that the Premier flagrantly ignores the Christians’ hopes as he does not keep his promises. The refusal to set up the commission shows that he ignores the most civilized way of resolving acute problems.
“Vladimir Filat and his European ‘relatives’ demand that the Antidiscrimination Law be adopted. This way they want to shut us up, marginalize the activity of the Church and the priests who protect the people’s morality and to thus justify the commitments made not to the people, but to the European officials, who tell him what to do and how to do,” said His Holiness Marchel.
He also said that he stated the position of priests of different ranks of the Orthodox Church of Moldova, who will make statements themselves when time comes. The archpriest said that by taking attitude they do not become involved in politics, but they cannot stay and witness the destruction of the faithful people. In another development, he said that he supports the Committee for Defending the Constitution and Democracy, which last Sunday protested in the Great National Assembly Square.
