Prime Minister Iurie Leanca took part in the second Conference of Teachers and Masters of Technical Vocational Education that was held at the Teacher-Training College in Orhei on October 15. The event involved over 100 representatives from the education sector and businessmen who discussed the labor market necessities, IPN reports.

The Premier raised the issue of unemployment among young people. “Only in the developed countries, such as Germany and Austria, which have a modern vocational training system, the jobless rate is relatively low. Our key objective is to make sure that the young people find a well-paid job after they graduate from the vocational school, college or university,” stated Iurie Leanca.

“When we bring investments to Moldova, we say that these investments must not only create a greater export potential, but should also create new job.”

Referring to the demand for skilled workers, he said he established that only 40 of the 200 employees of a company that will have work for a period of minimum ten years were Moldovans. “I wondered why they don’t employ Moldovan specialists and ascertained that specialists for such jobs started to be trained at two colleges only this year,” said the Prime Minister.

Among other subjects discussed were the reforms done in the technical vocation education, the accomplishments and problems in the field, the changes that need to be made, the Education Code provisions concerning technical vocational education, creation of excellence centers, development of dual education, revision of the curricular and the steps that the Ministry of Education must take to modernize them.

The conference was organized by the Ministry of Education. Two days ago, the Ministry held a similar conference in Balti, while on October 17 will stage such an event in Cahul.
