The members of the parliamentary group of the Party “Dignity and Truth Platform” (PPPDA) ask to set up a special commission of inquiry that would elucidate the acts of corruption and unjust enrichment of President Igor Dodon. According to them, this is the first step to penalize the Head of State and the relevant draft decision will be registered on May 21, IPN reports.

MP Alexandru Slusari in a news conference spoke about the videos showing Igor Dodon, Sergey Yaralov and Vlad Plahotniuc discussing, with the latter giving a black bag to Dodon “for paying particular salaries”, which have been disseminated in the public sphere. “It’s time for Igor Dodon, after three years and a half of “glorious work”, to be penalized. This video was probably the last drop,” he stated.

According to the MP, the parliamentary group of the PPPDA decided to initiate the procedure for penalizing the President, this being the first move of the kind in Moldova’s history. From legal angle, there are different opinions, but the commission is only a first step. This commission should consist only of MPs with an impeccable reputation. They hope the MPs will vote in favor of creating such a commission next week or even this Friday.

MP Dinu Plîngău said the commission would investigate all the circumstances of the President’s involvement in acts of corruption and unjust enrichment. There are reasonable suspicions that President Dodon violated his constitutional duties and is even involved in more serious acts that flouted the rule of law.

MP Igor Munteanu said the Head of State, after swearing to be loyal to the national interest, should be a symbol of integrity and devotion to the country’s people. “As there are reasonable suspicions pointing to indecent behavior, acceptance of money, improper management of particular areas, coordination of actions that reveal illegal financing for the party that he represented from outside the country, Parliament not only has the right, but is obliged to set up the commission of inquiry,” he noted.
