The parliamentary group of the Party “Dignity and Truth Platform” (PPPDA) requested to immediately convene an extraordinary session of Parliament so as to formally question Minister of Economy and Infrastructure Anatol Usatyi and the managers of the National Agency for Energy Regulation and the Competition Council, IPN reports.

In a press briefing, Deputy Parliament Speaker Alexandru Slusari said that in an extraordinary sitting, Parliament should examine the situation in the passenger transportation sector following the rise in fares on interurban routes.

The PPPDA also wants the MPs to discuss the holding by the Ministry of Economy and Infrastructure of tender contests to choose contactors for the rehabilitation and modernization of roads and the recent rise in fuel prices.

“These are important subjects that necessitate solutions and cannot wait,” stated Alexandru Slusari. He noted the economic situation in the Republic of Moldova becomes more alarming when the largest part of the population lives bellow the subsistence level. “The inability of the state to ensure decent living conditions for its citizens at home is due to a disastrous economic policy,” said the Deputy Speaker.

He also said that a series of anti-people measures taken recently worsened further the economic situation of the citizens, such as the rise in interurban transport fares and in fuel prices. The higher fares affect the most underprivileged groups of society, such as pensioners, the young people and the persons with disabilities. The idea of creating a group for monitoring the fuel prices announced by the authorities reveals a nonprofessional approach.

“The rise in fuel prices is based on a cartel agreement. Nothing can justify this rise. The situation concerning excise duties was overcome two weeks ago when fuel prices were raised first,” stated Alexandru Slusari.

In another development, he said that last yearend the PPPDA proposed calling an extraordinary meeting of Parliament to discuss the situation at the Chisinau International Airport, but the relevant request was signed only by the MPs of the ACUM Bloc and an independent MP.
