Potential electoral competitors prepare for general local elections of 2007

Several persons and political parties are already interested in the local elections which will take place in 2007, Iurie Ciocan the secretary of the Central Electoral Commission (CEC), told Info-Prim Neo. According to him, CEC received several phone calls from individual persons and political parties, especially those created recently. They were interested in the conditions and the participation rules. In order to make this information accessible for the future competitors, CEC offers all the necessary information on the web page of the Commission – www.cec.md. According to the legislation, in order to participate as electoral competitor at the local general elections in 2007, the registration documents must be submitted and only afterwards the circumscription electoral councils make public the information about the place and time of document’s submitting, but not later than 30 days before elections. The necessary documents for the registration of the candidates are: application document for the registration as electoral competitor; the minutes of the meeting of the central or territorial body of the party on appointing the candidate; a CV; the consent of the candidate; candidate’s income and property declaration. According to the new amendments operated to the Electoral Code, in 2007 the stamp “voted” will not be applied on the identity cards anymore. As well elections will be considered valid if 25% of the persons having the right to vote will participate in elections comparing with 1/3 until now. As well the ballot will not include the detachable ticket. At the local elections in 2007, the citizens of Chisinau municipality will receive 4 ballots. The last local elections took place on May 25, 2003. The central authorities foresee that that the next elections will be organized during the period April-July, 2007.
