Minister of Culture Monica Babuc discussed with Romanian officials possibilities of attracting EU funds for restoring theaters in Moldova. Romania already has such experience and can share it with Moldova. Within the working visit to Bucharest, Monica Babuc had meetings with a number of Romanian officials. The main subjects raised were the dynamics of the cooperation relations, strengthening of the dialogue at interinstitutional level and the prospects of developing joint projects in the filed of culture, IPN reports.

According to a communiqué of the Ministry of Culture, the issues discussed in the meeting with Romanian Minister of Culture Kelemen Hunor included the joint promotion of elements of the intangible cultural heritage in the UNESCO Representative List, development of cultural industries, promotion of cultural and creative sectors for ensuring economic growth and creating workplaces and holding of the Bucharest Festival “George Enescu” in Chisinau in 2015 and 2017 and of the International Opera and Ballet Festival “Maria Biesu” in Bucharest.

Monica Babuc’s official visit to Bucharest included a meeting with the director general of the Romanian National Opera in Bucharest Razvan Ion Dinca. The Romanian official presented information about an extensive project to modernize and restore the Bucharest Opera, which is aimed at satisfying the needs of the public and the artists. He invited the Moldovan minister to take part in the opening of the season of the National Theater at the end of October and in the European Operas Conference in Bucharest next year.

While in Bucharest, Monica Babuc also met with the head of the Romanian Cultural Instate Lilian Zamfiroiu. He said they will continue to support the cultural projects in Moldova, underlining that emphasis will be laid on the resumption of financing of periodicals in Moldova. The officials backed the idea of jointly holding conferences centering on the problems and challenges faced in the field of culture. The first such event will be a conference on the development of cultural industries and the relevant experience of Romania and other EU member states.

On September 11, Monica Babuc and Kelemen Hunor took part in the opening of the tour of the Romanian Theater in Bucharest and Chisinau, where the National Theater “Mihai Eminescu” of Chisinau presented William Shakespeare’s play “Love’s dancing and plays tricks” under the direction of Alexandru Vasilache.
