Food inspectors detected pork that was illegally sold at an agri-food market in the suburbs of Chisinau. Officials of the National Food Safety Agency told IPN that it goes to about 170 kilograms of pork that were withdrawn and destroyed, and the market spaces were subjected to disinfection.

Meat whose quality is doubtful is subjected to laboratory tests. If it does not have the necessary documents of origin, it is destroyed on the spot.

The officials told IPN that inspections have been intensified because it is a period with an increased risk of spread of African swine fever.

The Agency urges administrators of agri-food markets or specialized stores to show maximum responsibility. The legislation bans the sale of meat without the necessary accompanying documents. People who violate the law face a fine of 15,000 lei.

Last week, inspectors thwarted the intention to sell about 500 kilograms of pork of dubious origin at an agri-food market. The meat was confiscated and destroyed. Likewise, there was discovered an illegal animal fair where live pigs were sold without the necessary documents.
