The Minister for Foreign Affairs of Denmark Martin Lidegaard and the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Poland Grzegorz Schetyna paid a visit to Moldova to agree the program for the Riga Summit and to find out the key sectors for which Moldova wants to attract EU assistance. The two European officials visited Chisinau on March 2, at the invitation of their Moldovan counterpart Natalia Gherman, IPN reports.

In a news conference after the meeting, Minister of Foreign Affairs and European Integration Natalia Gherman said Poland and Denmark have always supported the negotiation and signing of the Association Agreement between Moldova and the EU, this accord being already ratified, and the granting of a visa-free regime to Moldova.

The officials also discussed the meeting of the Association Council that will take place in Brussels on March 16. At this event, Moldova’s performance will be assessed and the areas in which the country needs EU assistance will be agreed.

Natalia Gherman also said that she discussed the attraction of investments from Poland and Denmark with her European counterparts. In this connection, a forum of Moldovan businessmen could be staged in Denmark.

Martin Lidegaard said Moldova has yet a lot to do on its path of European integration, but the country will benefit from the EU’s support in this respect. If Moldova wants to attract more investments, it must build a safe environment for investors.

For his part, Grzegorz Schetyna stated that Moldova is going through an important period and will have to deal with many challenges, but the EU will make effort to help the country overcome all the difficulties. He wished the political class to form a stable majority in Parliament so as to manage to do the reforms needed by the country.

After the meeting with the Moldovan minister, the two officials met with President Nicolae Timofti and Prime Minister Chiril Gaburici.
