In order to decrease the number of accidents with pedestrians, all policewomen within the General Police Station and territorial subdivisions are involved in the activity of guaranteeing the road traffic security at pedestrian road crossings of the capital. The inspector of the road traffic security, administrative supervision and public relations service of Chisinau Road Police, Ion Roscovanu, reported that at 08:00-10:00 and 16:00-18:00, when many accidents involving pedestrian happen, policewomen will guard their lives, redirecting them to pedestrian crossings and supervising that the cars stop while they cross the street. According to Roscovanu, the lack of traffic culture leads to accidents and not every time the driver is guilty for the accident. Statistic data show that every 7-th pedestrian injured in accidents is guilty of this. „If the driver sees the pedestrian crossing the street in not allowed places, it will be great if he gives him the chance to cross it, even if the driver is right,” he underlined. In 2005 and first 3 months of 2006, a considerable increase of the number of accidents involving pedestrians was registered in Chisinau municipality. Thus, during the first 3 months of 2006, 223 accidents were registered, as a result 298 people were injured and 16 people died. Of the total number of accidents the biggest part of them involves pedestrians – 115 accidents, or about 43%.
