An employee of the Chisinau Police Division and another one of the Botanica Police Inspectorate are investigated for corruption. These are suspected of trying to corrupt judges of the Supreme Court of Justice so that these issued a decision in favor of a person who was earlier sentenced to eight years in jail, IPN reports.

According to the General Police Inspectorate, the suspects offered €9,000 to the judges for such a decision. They are also suspected of traffic of influence and extortion of €10,500 from the petitioner, with the illegal starting of a criminal case against the intermediary with the aim of intimidating him and making him give them the money refused by the judges, plus an additional sum of €1,500.

The person against whom the criminal case was started filed a complaint to the Internal Protection and Anticorruption Service of the Ministry of the Interior by which he denounced the attempt to corrupt judges of the Supreme Court of Justice and the illegalities of the policemen. The first tranche of €7,000 was transmitted at the Botanica Police Inspectorate under the control of the police. The two were arrested recently when receiving the second tranche of €2,000.

The police officers were remanded in custody. They face up to seven years in jail and ban on holding particular public posts for a period of five to ten years for active and passive corruption, influence peddling and participation in offense.
