An investigation officer of the Buiucani Police Inspectorate was arrested after a man denounced him for asking money from him. The officer asked US$1,000 for not holding the man accountable for rape, IPN reports.
According to a communiqué from the National Anticorruption Center, the arrest was made inside the Buiucani Police Inspectorate, where the suspect has worked for only two weeks. The police officer will be held at the Center’s remand unit for 72 hours. He hasn’t made depositions yet.
The policeman faces 5 to 10 years in jail and a fine of up to 60,000 lei. He will also be banned from holding particular posts for a period of up to five years.
