Representatives of the Association of Veterans of the Ministry of Internal Affairs and of the Union of Veterans of the Armed Forces and Law Enforcement Agencies call on the citizens and war veterans to come to a peaceful protest in the Great National Assembly Square on Sunday, October 23.

“Dear citizens, dear veterans of the Afghanistan war, dear veterans of the Nistru war of 1992, I call on you to come together in central Chisinau, in the Great National Assembly Square, this Sunday. We must openly and without compromises state our opinion on the fact that our administration leads us directly towards war, the second war on the Nistru. I don’t want to be predictive but I fear that this war will not stop at a distance of 10 km from the banks of the Nistru,” the president of the Union of Veterans of the Armed Forces Vladimir Donțul stated in a news conference held at IPN News Agency.

The veterans criticized the police’s actions against the people who were protesting in front of the Presidential Administration. “We, the police veterans, want to remind that all the citizens of the Republic of Moldova have the right to peacefully assemble and to freely express their social position,” said Yuri Dementyev, ex-head of the Operations Coordination Division. He called on the police to obey the law and to respect the rights of people. He noted that the police veterans will stand by the citizens who peacefully express their wish to fight the currently witnessed poverty.

Vasile Severin, the first commander of the Special Forces Battalion “Fulger”, urged the police officers not to fulfill the illegitimate orders of the authorities. “I urge all the veterans, of the Armed Forces, of the internal affairs bodies, to come to the Great National Assembly Square on October 23 and say what direction we should follow,” stated Vasile Severin.

“I want to ask the country’s administration to turn its face to the people, to have a dialogue with the people and to identity solutions to the experienced difficult problems. I want to ask the administration to stop using the police in illegalities against the people,” said Vladimir Solop, ex-head of the Criminal Police.
