The patrol officer who is suspected of having hit fatally a woman on January 13 was under the influence of alcohol. Contacted by IPN for details, acting head of the Chisinau City Prosecutor’s Office Oleg Afanasii said the lab tests showed the alcohol content in his blood was of 0.68 g/l. As the driver refused to take a breath alcohol test, a legal examination is needed, as the Penal Procedure Code provides.

The police officer was charged based on two articles of the Penal Code – violation of the road traffic rules and leaving of the place of the accident.

The remand warrant issued in the name of the officer was challenged in the Chisinau City Appeals Court and a judgment is to be passed on January 25.

A woman aged 36 was struck fatally on Socoleni St in Chisinau in the evening of January 13. The hit-and-run driver was arrested shortly afterward. This was a patrol officer who was outside his working hours when the accident happened. The police said the woman was crossing the street legally.

The lowest level of alcohol intoxication is blood alcohol content of 0.3 to 0.5 g/l or breath alcohol concentration of 0.15 to 0.3 mg/l. The highest level of alcohol intoxication is blood alcohol content of 0.5 g/l and more or breath alcohol concentration of 0.3 mg/l and more.
