About 1,500 police officers will work on New Year’s Eve. The General Police Inspectorate said that about 130 patrol teams will be on duty on the night of January 1. The number of operational police teams will be doubled, IPN reports.

Alexandru Bejan, deputy head of the General Police Inspectorate, told a news conference that 1,416 offenses were recorded in Moldova during the last days of 2020. Even if the total number of offenses decreased compared with the corresponding period of 2019, 15 murders were committed during the last days of last year, all of them amid drinking bouts. There were also committed five robberies.

The police recommend the persons not to abuse alcohol and to be cautious about foreigners who enter their home as these can be swindlers. The parents are warned not to leave the children unsupervised and to explain to them that the street is not a place for playing. If the families go out for a walk when it is dark, they should put on them, primarily on children, light clothes that are seen when crossing the street. The parents are urged to monitor the content seen by children on the Internet so that these do not become victims of offenders or abusers.

Fireworks should be bought from authorized places and should be set off exclusively by adults.

Eduard Curdoglo, division head at the General Carabineer Inspectorate, recommended avoiding crowded places and to watch out for pickpockets.

Even if they spend the time in the open air, those who fish on ice and like walking on ice should avoid the lakes and rivers as the ice is now very thin. The oscillation of temperatures leads to the formation of ice bridges that are not yet rigid and pose a threat, said Oleg Malashevski, division head of the General Inspectorate for Emergencies.

In situations of risk, the people can seek help through the 112 Service.
