A number of 37 oxygen concentrators to the value of over €23,000 were donated by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Poland, through the Solidarity Fund PL, to the Moldovan health system. The handover ceremony was held at the storehouse of the Ministry of Health, Labor and Social Protection on May 22, IPN reports.
Poland’s Ambassador to Moldova Bartłomiej Zdaniuk said that besides different development projects implemented by Poland in Moldova during many years, following the COVID-19 outbreak they decided to open an emergency fund of €50,000, called the Solidarity Fund PL in the Republic of Moldova.
The first donation of this fund was made in March. The Clinical Infectious Diseases Hospital “Toma Ciorbă” was offered the first oxygen concentrator. Towards the end of April, there was donated a consignment of protective equipment to the value of over €25,000. Today they make the third donation, of 37 oxygen concentrators worth over €23,000.
Solidarity Fund PL director Tomasz Horbowski noted that 30 health facilities already received the oxygen concentrators.
Minister of Health, Labor and Social Protection Viorica Dumbrăveanu thanked the Polish donors for the support provided in the form of oxygen concentrators, which are necessary for treating persons with COVID-19 as well. She said the assistance comes when Moldova is in a difficult situation owing to the pandemic.
In March – May 2020, Solidarity Fund PL in the Republic of Moldova launched three more development funds whose financial resources will be used to develop small and medium-sized enterprises, to improve the living conditions in towns and cities and to alleviate the effects of the crisis caused by the pandemic. The total value of the funds exceeds €1 million.
