Personalities from the field of culture rendered homage to poet-academician Nicolae Dabija in an anniversary conference at the Academy of Sciences of Moldova that was held on the occasion of the 70th anniversary of the poet’s birth.

Minister of Education, Culture and Research Monica Babuc said many personalities receive awards, but are almost anonymous for the own people owing to different objective or subjective reasons. “In addition to all the awards gained by Nicolae Dabija, and he has all of those possible, he won one more award that cannot be created with even 200 presidential decrees – the love of the people of which he forms part,” she stated.

Gheorge Duca, president of the Academy of Sciences of Moldova, said Nicolae Dabija is a bell of the renaissance of the national consciousness. As a politician, he contributed to the establishment of the Moldovan state. Nicolae Dabija brought into focus such themes as the deportations, through the novel “The homework” that is intended for the young generation. By this novel that was translated into several languages, Nicolae Dabija made the whole world cry and live the period of deportations in Bessarabia.

Nicolae Dabija said he was not only a witness to history, but also a participant in this as the Soviet Union, the world camp of socialism, collapsed before his eyes. He considers himself privileged as it often seems to him that he chose the locality where to be born and the parents to whom to be borne by himself. Even if the world is now invaded by modern information technology, the book will never disappear as it is a gift from God.

Moldova’s first President Mircea Snegur noted the poems and novels of Nicolae Dabija not only reach deeply hidden feelings, but also help to ensure the collective recovery of the nation. Nicolae Dabija’s weekly “Literature and arts” is the flame that lights the way to identity.

“The birthday of Nicolae Dabija is a holiday of culture,” said Vladimir Hotineanu, the chairman of the Parliament’s commission on culture, education, youth, sport and the media. According to him, Nicolae Dabija led the national movement, woke up the nation and made us believe that we deserve this country.
