The National Liberal Party (PNL) says the MPs should modify the procedure for electing the head of state so that he is voted in by a lower number of votes and then agree the date of early parliamentary elections, in autumn or spring, Info-Prim Neo reports. In a news conference on September 8, the party’s leader Vitalia Pavlichenko said the PNL wants to create a joint bloc with the Alliance for European Integration (AEI) and the European Action Movement (MAE) for the early legislative elections. Speaking about the September 5 referendum, Vitalia Pavlichenko said a heavy fight now takes place behind the scene. “It will be a great shock if the referendum outcome is validated. I cannot see how the voter turnout can increase from 29% to 33%,” she said. The National-Liberals says the state did not propagate the necessity of taking part in the referendum through the Central Election Commission and the public authorities and entrusted this task to the parties. “Instead of educating the population on the purpose of the plebiscite, the parliamentary and extraparliamentary parties promoted their messages and leaders, regarding the referendum as a first stage of the presidential elections. This misled the people and discouraged them from voting,” the PNL says in a statement that was read in the news conference. The PNL considers that the parliamentary parties must show political will and adopt a new, simplified Constitution. In this connection, Vitalia Pavlichenko said the PNL will probably review its programmatic position at the future congress and will propose removing the post of head of state and increasing the powers of the Prime Minister.
