Prime Minister Iurie Leanca discussed measures to improve the situation in the agricultural sector with a group of farmers in Balti town in the evening of August 7. The farmers put their agricultural machines in the middle of the road in protest at the restrictions imposed by Russia on the import of Moldovan fruit, IPN reports.
According to the Government’s press service, the Premier called on the farmers to return to the fields and to gather their harvest as the factories are ready to process the fruit.
Iurie Leanca assured the farmers that they will receive compensation by October. Also, the Government will invite importers from Egypt, Quixtar and other states interested in the Moldovan fruit to pay a visit to Moldova. The measure is taken with the aim of helping the farmers to find buyers for the autumn fruit as soon as possible.
“I and my colleagues from the Cabinet want to solve these problems. But, for this to happen, we must come together at the negotiating table and find the best way out,” stated the Premier.
Iurie Leanca reiterated that the Government of Moldova pleads for a constrictive dialogue with the Russian authorities.
