Moldova’s exports of plums to Germany increased significantly the last few years. Since 2017 until 2022, plum exports grew from 220 tonnes to about 5,500 tonnes. According to the Agricultural Market Information System of Germany, the Moldovan plums now represent 30-40% of the total quantity of plums imported by Germany, IPN reports.

The Ministry of Agriculture and Food Industry said the commercial relations between Moldovan producers and German importers were established with the assistance of USAID projects, the farmers being helped to meet the requirements of the European importers and to become competitive on the Western market.

Following the EU’s decision, Moldova as from July 2022 during a year will be able to export twice larger quantities of seven agricultural products – tomatoes, garlic, cherries, plums, table grapes and grape juice - to the European Union.
