The Liberal Democratic Party (PLDM) calls upon Vladimir Voronin to observe the law and resign as president of Moldova. The party says that the seat of MP is incompatible with the post of head of state, Info-Prim Neo reports. At a news conference on Thursday, the PLDM leader Vlad Filat said that Vladimir Voronin’s refusal to quit as chief of state means usurpation of power that is punished with 10 to 15 years in jail. “It is an attitude that characterizes Vladimir Voronin as he has had such an attitude during the two terms in office,” Filat said. Alexandru Tanase, first vice president of the PLDM, voiced hope that Voronin will have a different behavior and will comply with the law. “Everybody is equal in front of the law,” the MP said. The post of MP is incompatible with any other post, except teaching and scientific activities. The person that was elected as MP but holds a post that is incompatible with the MP seat must choose the position they want to keep within 30 days of the validation of the election results. “This does not apply to the president,” Vladimir Voronin said after Wednesday’s sitting of the Parliament. The PLDM has announced they will lodge an application with the Constitutional Court on Friday, asking it to pronounce on this issue. [{UPDATE}] “I advise him to more attentively read the Constitution of Moldova. Article 80, paragraph 2 clearly says that the president remains in office until the new president swears the oath of office,” the Communist MP Vladimir Turcan, the first deputy speaker of Parliament, told the reporters.
