The Civil Society Platform “Pro Europe” expresses its disappointment with the delay in forming a new Government, which brings a new wave of instability and considerable political, economic and social damage in Moldova. In a statement, the Platform underlines the importance of transparent negotiations on the formation of a new Government that would consistently follow the path to Europeans integration, IPN reports.
“In the light of the latest political events in Moldova, marked by the Government’s resignation and attempts to form a new government coalition, civil society ascertains with regret that Moldova’s European course is again endangered by the parliamentary parties’ struggle for power and by the political instability generated by this,” reads the statement.
The Platform says the lack of a functional Government and the long-lasting negotiations on the formation of a new Government jeopardize the functionality of the legal system and the rule of law in general. The corrupt system became Moldova’s biggest weakness and a real threat to the state. The longer the period of political instability is, the more seriously the rule of law will be affected and the consequences for Moldova’s European future could be disastrous.
According to the Platform, concrete measures should be now taken such as holding more transparent and urgent negotiations for installing the new Cabinet that would act based on the vote of confidence given by the Moldovan people and adopting decisions to solve the case of the disappearance of money from the three banks and laws referring to the national integrity system so as to improve the activity of the National Integrity Center.
Founded on June 30, 2014, the Civil Society Platform “Pro Europe” is a voluntary association of civil society organizations of Moldova. Among the signatories of the statement are the Foreign Policy Association, the Institute of Public Policy, Transparency International Moldova, the Institute for Development and Social Initiative “Viitorul”, East Europe Foundation and the Legal Resources Center of Moldova.
