An Embraer airplane, flying from Azerbaijan to Russia, crashed near the city of Aktau in Kazakhstan. It had 67 people on board, including five crew members, Kazakh authorities said, IPN reports.
According to preliminary information, the cause of the crash may have been a malfunction in the aircraft's control system. It is now known that the crew had reported some problems with the system during the flight.
Video footage online shows the plane, which was operated by Azerbaijan Airlines, burst into flames as it hit the ground and then billowing thick black smoke.
Authorities report 28 survivors. Some are in very serious condition.
The country's Ministry of Emergency Situations said the fire services responded promptly to the scene and extinguished the blaze.
Azerbaijan Airlines said the Embraer 190 aircraft, flight number J2-8243, was flying from Baku to Grozny, the capital of the Chechen Republic in Russia.
