The leader of the Liberal Party (PL) Mihai Ghimpu and the entire party will be directly responsible if early legislative elections take place, says an analysis made by the Institute for Political Analysis and Consultancy “Politicon”, which is headed by analyst Anatol Taranu, IPN reports.

The analysis says that the ruling alliance fell when the PLDM withdrew from the agreement on the formation of the AEI 2, but also when the PCRM and PDM passed the Communists’ censure motion against the Filat Government, with the moral support of the PL. ‘The attempts to remedy the situation by creating the AEI 3 met with the intransigent position of the Liberal leader Mihai Ghimpu, who put forward the precondition of removing the leader of the PLDM Vlad Filat from the Moldovan political arena, which is incompatible with the democratic values,” said the authors of the analysis.

According to them, aiming at Filat, Ghimpu unwillingly hit his own party, until a group of heavyweights of the PL, led by the party’s first deputy chairman Ion Hadarca, announced that the party must be reformed from inside. “Trying to localize the dissidence in the party, the leader of the PL resorted to fatal amputation, excluding more than half of the members of the parliamentary group, two of the five representatives in the Cabinet and a large number of regional leaders from the party. This fact significantly diminishes the party’s numeric and political potential and disorganizes many of the local organizations before the possible early parliamentary elections,” said the analysts.

According to “Politicon”, the possible early legislative elections can result in a decrease in the number of representatives of the parties of the former AEI in Parliament. Consequently, the early elections can bring the PCRM back to power, either alone or in a coalition dominated by the Communists. Thus, the foreign policy vector may change from the integration into the EU to the orientation to the Eurasian Union.
