The Liberal Party (PL) headed by Mihai Ghimpu and the National Liberal Party (PNL) led by Vitalia Pavlichenco opened talks on the formation of an electoral bloc for this autumn’s parliamentary elections. Contacted by IPN to provide details, the PL’s secretary general Ion Apostol said the possibility of merging the parties is also considered.

“I also had a discussion with the representative of the PNL, missis president Pavlichenco and mister president Ghimpu. I ascertained that there is not much power where there is only one. When you combine forces, the power increases. A lot of parties have appeared on the political right to disperse the unionists so that these have no chance in Parliament. That’s why the union is needed,” stated Ion Apostol.

As a result of the parliamentary elections of 2014, the PL won 13 seats of MP. The PNL didn’t pass the election threshold.
