The Liberal Party (PL) accuses the ruling Communists Party (PCRM) of having sabotaged Moldova's European integration and maintains that the latter one has no moral right to represent Moldova in the relations with the European Union, since all its policies have been oriented against Europe, Info-Prim Neo reports. “The PL is concerned to find that all the actions of the Communist government in terms of Moldova's European integration have borne and bear a dual character and premeditatedly pursue to drive away our perspectives of joining the EU,” writer Ion Hadarca, who runs for an MP seat on the PL's list, told a news conference Monday. “Despite the commitments of the Communist governance envisaging the advancement of the relations between Moldova and UE, the rulers have definitely compromised the process. Moldova is now within the same parameters as it was in 2001,” Ion Hadarca read out from a statement by the PL. “The situation has worsened considerably the latest period because of the oppressing measures undertaken by the law-enforcing bodies against citizens and against different NGOs staging peaceful protests, what is an open disregard for the recommendations of the Council of Europe and of the EU,” Hadarca added. According to PL president Mihai Ghimpu, the EU's refusal to sign a new cooperation agreement with Moldova before the elections proves that the European officials do not trust the Communist rulers. “That is why, the PL considers that maintaining the Communists in power after the 2009 parliamentary elections will set Moldova's prospects for European integration even further away,” Ghimpu said. PL deputy president Corina Fusu says the Communists Party came to power in 2005, stealing the pro-European message of the democratic parties, and “it will try to play the same card after compromising the European integration.” The parliamentary elections will take place in Moldova on April 5.
