The pilot who died in Sunday's plane crash is the former chairman of the board of directors of Südzucker Moldova, Alexander Koss, IPN reports.
The plane crashed and caught fire on the territory of "Speranța" recreational camp in Vadul lui Vodă town. Only the pilot was on board. His carbonized body was found by firefighters.
"It is with deep regret that we learned about the death of Dr. Alexander Koss, who tragically lost his life in a plane crash. Dr. Koss had served as the chairman of the board of directors of Südzucker Moldova for almost 20 years, a visionary leader who dedicated his professional life to the development and success of our company," reads a message of condolence sent by the company.
According to the Civil Aviation Authority, the crashed plane is an ultra-light Socata TB20 aircraft, registered in Germany, with the license number D-EMRT. The competent authorities opened an investigation to find out the causes of the accident.
