A phantom company has caused damage of 57 million lei to the state budget. In a news conference on December 21, prosecutors said the last transaction performed by the company involved computation equipment that was brought to Moldova through Transnistria, Info-Prim Neo reports. Representatives of the Prosecutor General’s Office and the Customs Service said they conducted extensive investigations, following persons and tapping phones. The persons involved in this case met with public servants, but no names will be yet revealed. The police suspected tax evasion when a company bought merchandise to the value of 21,000 lei on Moldova’s territory, but sold goods of almost 285 million lei over three months. Eleven legal entities and six private individuals are investigated within criminal cases started over smuggling and tax evasion. The private individuals are under house arrest. One of them was identified on December 20. The prosecutors are taking steps to determine where the money earned from selling different goods, from construction materials to computation equipment, is. They will ask the court to order confiscating this money.
