The Prosecutor General’s Office (PGO) asked to lift the parliamentary immunity of Irina Lozovan and Alexandr Nesterovschi. Speaker Igor Grosu made the announcement at the start of the September 21 sitting of Parliament, IPN reports.

The PGO made two requests to lift the immunity of MP Irina Lozovan for this to be detained, arrested, searched and tried over conscious acceptance of financing for the political party from an organized criminal group and over significant money laundering committed by an organized criminal group.

Alexandr Nesterovschi is featured in three requests to lift the immunity of MP, over passive corruption – asking, acceptance and receiving of undue gains by a public figure in person or through intermediaries for taking particular action in the fulfillment of his duties, over conscious acceptance of financing for the political party from an organized criminal group, and over illegal financing of political parties, initiative groups, election contenders or participants in a referendum and preparing of financing for political parties from sources prohibited by law.

The five requests signed by acting prosecutor general Ion Munteanu were submitted to the Parliament’s legal commission for appointment and immunities that is to convene at 1pm. The two MPs were invited to the meeting.

Irina Lozovan and Alexandr Nesterovschi entered Parliament on the ticket of the Party of Socialists, but they defected from this party in March 2023 and joined the Revival Party in May. The Revival Party was later joined by two more former Socialist MPs, Vasile Bolea and Alexandr Suhodolski.
