The practice of collecting money through parents’ association goes on throughout country. The conclusion was reached by prosecutors after monitoring how the child’s right to education was respected in the first quarter of the year. In its report, the Prosecutor General’s Office (PGO) accused the Ministry of Education of encouraging this illegal practice, Info-Prim Neo reports. Prosecutor Iurie Perevoznic, department head at PGO, told reporters that parents’ associations are created in nearly every educational institution. They act on the basis of internal regulations developed according to standard regulations approved by the Minister of Education. Prosecutors demand their cancellation as the regulations impose a duty on the parents’ committees to collect money from parents for the “class fund” and the “school fund”, payments that aren’t stipulated by the law. Iurie Perevoznic said that according to the Civil Code and the Law on public associations, a public association is an organization created for satisfying non-material needs. The Education Ministry's press service said that a proper answer to the allegation could be offered by Deputy Minister of Education Tatiana Potang, who could not be reached.
