The Republic of Moldova is a failure as a state, especially from economic viewpoint, Doctor of Economy Petrisor Peiu, expert of the Black Sea University Foundation, said in the talk show “European horizons” on TVR Moldova channel, IPN reports.

According to the expert, Moldova does not have chances of joining the EU for two key reasons. “The EU will not accept a state from the East without a security shield, the NATO, in its composition. We know the Moldovan Government’s position concerning the renouncing of the status of neutrality. Another reason is the fact that the economic structure of Moldova is different from that of the EU. In the European countries, industry represents at least 30% of the GDP, while in Moldova this figure does not exceed 12%. Agriculture accounts for the largest part of the Moldovan economy, while in the EU states it represents not more than 3%. Remittances represent 20% of Moldova’s economy, while in Romania these represented not more than 8% in the most difficult times. Moldova does not even have a stable banking system,” he stated.

Petrisor Peiuc considers the EU’s Eastern Partnership also failed. “Neither Moldova is a reliable partner of this project while it oscillates between the East and the West. The situation can be compared with that of a pupil who remained in the classroom after his classmates did a bunk. This pupil is looking through the window and is ready to run away too, while the teachers pretend not to see him,” he said.
