European Union Ambassador Peter Michalko says the European Union will observe if independent institutions in the Republic of Moldova work as needed. The Head of the EU Delegation argues that the topic of independent functioning of justice system and institutions always persists in the discussions with leaders from Chisinau. The statements were made on "Time of Expertise" program, Jurnal TV, IPN reports.

Peterm Michalko argues that the reform of justice requires rapid steps. According to him, it would be a few months. "Decisions must be made about how it will be done, what kind of system will start the respective activity. This concerns passing of laws. After that, the development of the necessary tools follows: evaluating those who work within the system. We will already see how fast this can take place, it is important to make progress and to have clear prospects," said the European official.

Peter Michalko says that in the past efforts have already been made to reform the justice system, but they have not been successfully completed. “At the time we also supported these efforts. Unfortunately, we could not offer then the budget support assistance because there were no results. We will continue the support based on these criteria, on certain terms and we always hope that results will be achieved and will insist that they be seen,” specified the EU ambassador.

The Head of the EU Delegation to Chisinau says he is witnessing progress after the establishment of the new government. According to him, there is also a strong political will to make the necessary changes. "What we are observing is the will and concrete steps as regards the reform of the judiciary, which is a priority, and the improvement of business environment, which is important for the Republic of Moldova in order to use all the opportunities offered by the Association Agreement with the European Union," mentioned the EU ambassador.
