The persons who are caught driving under the influence of alcohol and are deprived of the driver’s license will be able to get this back only when they pass again the driving test. In some of the cases, the person will have to attend a social behavior correction program or an anti-alcohol and anti-drug course. A bill to this effect was drafted by the Ministry of the Interior and was proposed for public debates, IPN reports.

The driver’s license is annulled if the driver was banned from driving for a period of one year and more by a definitive court judgment.

The same bill suggests supplementing the Contravention Code with an article about the temporary seizure of the driver’s license, until a court judgment is passed. It is also proposed modifying the penalty and reducing the driving prohibition period from two to three years to the period of six months to one year in a move to ensure proportionality between the imposition of fines and of driving prohibition penalties.
