The National Patrolling Inspectorate calls on the pedestrians and drivers to be more prudent while in traffic now that the days are shorter, the weather conditions are often unfavorable and the visibility is bad, IPN reports.
According to the Inspectorate, the pedestrians who walk on poorly lit streets or where there is no light cannot be clearly seen by motorists. To ensure increased visibility, it is recommended wearing clothes of light colors or that contain reflectors and crossing the street only in places that are marked appropriately and walking only along pavements. Where these are absent, walking is recommended on the left side of the road. Crossing the street in front or behind vehicles that do not move is not recommended.
The drivers are urged to travel at an appropriate speed and to reduce the speed and not to perform maneuvers or dangerous overtaking near crosswalks.
The National Patrolling Inspectorate said the 733 road accidents involving pedestrians that happened on the national roads so far this year resulted in 78 deaths and 688 persons hurt.
