A man aged 57 was hit mortally by a car on the Chisinau-Hancesti road, at the intersection with Danceni village of Ialoveni district in the evening of October 22. The driver left the place of the accident, but was identified shortly afterward.
The call to the police was made by a passerby. The police established that the driver who struck the pedestrian was a 24-year-old man from Costesti village of Ialoveni district.
Press officer of the Anenii Noi and Ialoveni Police Inspectorate Silvia Vetcu has told IPN that the pedestrian was jaywalking. The driver told the police that he didn’t see the pedestrian as it was dark and he could not avoid the impact.
The driver is investigated outside remand. He faces up to seven years in jail.
