The Democratic Party of Moldova (PDM) and the Social Democratic Party (PSD) of Romania signed a cooperation agreement in Bucharest on May 19. The leader of the PDM Pavel Filip said that if the PDM passes the election threshold, it could form an alliance in the future Parliament with the Alliance for the Union of Romanians or other parties that are for close ties with Romania, IPN reports.

In a news conference in Bucharest, the leader of the PLDM said that by this agreement of cooperation, the two banks of the Prut will be brought closer by deeds not by words.

He thanked Bucharest for the constant support offered to the Republic of Moldova, saying that Romania has always been an advocate, friend and partner of Moldova on its path of European integration. “Romania is our main commercial partner, but what is more important is the fact that we are tied by history, culture, language and values,” stated Pavel Filip, noting that while the PDM and PSD were in power in the two countries, Moldova and Romania came closer than ever.

An objective set by the PDM for the next few years is to ensure common control on the border. “This is how we see the rapprochement between the two banks of the Prut: by deeds, not by statements, by concrete projects, by the interconnection of infrastructure. We should offer our citizens a common space for communication, transport, security, a common space of history, culture, language, values, as it was and continues to be, including from historical viewpoint. We have the same blood. This cannot be taken by anyone from us,” said the Democratic leader.

PSD president Marcel Ciolacu said the situation in the Republic of Moldova is tense. It is possible that a European majority will not be formed as a result of the snap parliamentary elections. As to the PDM, he said this is the only political party that has a structured, pro-European plan. “We will support you in this European project. In particular, we will support the European course of the Republic of Moldova,” noted Marcel Ciolacu.
