The chairman of the Democratic Party (PDM), Head of Parliament Marian Lupu said that after the fusion with the public movement “Noua Gagauzia” (“New Gagauzia”), the PDM became the most influential political organization in the Autonomous Territorial Unit of Gagauzia, being greatly represented in the unit’s executive bodies, including the People’s Assembly. He made related statements in the party’s regional forum that took place in Comrat on January 27, Info-Prim Neo reports, quoting a communiqué from the PDM’s press service.
The fusion of the public movement “Noua Gagauzia” and the Democratic Party, which was initiated on November 24, 2012, closed successfully and we obtained significant accomplishments in a short period of time, said the head of the PDM’s regional organization in Gagauzia, Mayor of Comrat Nicolai Dudoglo.
He also said that the PDM’s regional organization in Gagauzia, which has branches in all the unit’s settlements - 67 primary organizations, 26 town and village organizations, and three district organizations - was created during two months. There were also instituted the organization’s Executive Council and the Executive Bureau.
The People’s Assembly’s chairman Dmitri Constantinov, who is a member of the PDM’s regional organization in Gagauzia, said that for the first time Gagauzia can influence the course of the political life in Moldova, stressing that making the fusion was a courageous and the only right decision. “We are a unitary, functional organization that is ready to deal with the problems. The pressure and attacks on the PDM intensified, but the attacks are aimed at the powerful ones. This shows that the PDM is an influential organization,” he stated.
Marian Lupu said the members of the regional organization in Gagauzia will also serve on the PDM’s administrative bodies and the relevant decisions will be taken in the near future.
“After the PDM congress of June 2012, the party became much stronger. The number of members of the PDM almost doubled, totaling over 50,000. We obtained a majority of seats in the People’s Assembly and won the new local elections of 2012. The PDM’s successes dissatisfy yet our opponents that started to attack us. But this doesn’t scare us. We will not tolerate blackmail. We will continue to work to achieve the set objectives and will promote the initiatives expected by the people,” said Marian Lupu.
In the forum, the new members received party cards. The PDM’s chairman of honor Dumitru Diacov, MPs Igor Corman, Vasile Botnaru, Valentina Stratan, Stella Jantuan, and Valeriu Guma, ICT Minister Pavel Filip, the party’s secretary general, and representatives of the local organizations congratulated the new members on this occasion.
