The Opposition considers that the Communist Party (PCRM) postponed the election of the head of state for June 3 out of fear, not for religious reasons, Info-Prim Neo reports.
“Not this feast made the Communists put off the election of the president, but the fear for the responsibility that they bear. The responsibility for the 8 years of government, for the rigged elections and for the April 7 violence,” the leader of Liberal Democratic Party (PLDM) Vlad Filat told the press. “They did nothing but postpone the even for several days as they anyway bear responsibility,” he said. Filat expressed his regret that the PCRM “resorted to tricks and cheap games” and stressed that the PLDM is for early parliamentary elections.
“The Communists are in agony and continue to look for the vote that would enable them to elect a Communist head of state,” said Mihai Ghimpu, the leader of the Liberal Party (PL). He expressed his conviction that the PCRM would not find the missing vote among the members of the three Liberal Opposition parties. “The Opposition remains united,” Ghimpu said.
The president of the Moldova Noastra Alliance (AMN) Serafim Urecheanu believes that the PCRM is afraid of early elections. “As they are afraid of the only vote, they started to be afraid of God too,” Urecheanu said.
However, the AMN leader was not as categorical as his colleagues from the Opposition. He said that the AMN is ready to negotiate with the PCRM. “The Communists do not yet want to negotiate. They only want to come to power through corruption as they did in 2005,” he stated. “We were ready to offer them a coalition, but we did not have to whom to offer. In the evening of April 7, we told Voronin to withdraw his accusations that the Opposition members are fascists and to negotiate with us in order to overcome the political and even economic crisis.”
Serafim Urecheanu said that there are two scenarios that will suit the AMN. According to the first scenario, the PCRM leader Vladimir Voronin should yield up the post of Speaker to the Opposition. “Twenty minutes later, we will be ready to vote for the head of state they want and not to seek early elections,” Urecheanu said. According to the second scenario, the PCRM should offer the post of President of Moldova to the Opposition, for which Urecheanu would run. “I want and I will be head of state in the end,” the AMN leader said with confidence. He said he did not announce his candidacy because he had no guarantees he would be elected.
The rerun elections for choosing the head of state were rescheduled for June 3 at the suggestion of the PCRM. The leader of the Communist faction Maria Postoico said that today is the Ascension, a time of rejoicing and conciliation that should not be a day of polemics and statements that would plunge the country into early elections.
